POKOT WOMEN EMPOWERMENT ORGANISATION(POWEO) HELD A TRAINING AT KONGELEI IN WEST POKOT COUNTY TO SENSITIZE THE FLOODS/LANDSLIDE SURVIVORS ON THE SAFETY AWARENESS

Pokot Women Empowerment Organisation (POWEO), a grantee parner under the WVL project in Kenya, held a training at Kongelei in West pokot County to sensitize the floods/landslide survivors on the safety awareness, where more 50 women and 10 men attended.

Kongelai have endured hardship for the past few years due to heavy rains.Traders have been counting huge losses after their shops and properties submerged in water that entered in their shops inundated villages and farmland.

The residents of Kongelei were encouraged to practice afforestation in their area and move to higher grounds and settle there permanently to avoid such crisis in future. POWEO Director, Leah Psiya also issued a warning to some business women who still sleep in their kiosks during market days,which is a risk of being washed away by heavy rains to find a way of transportation their goods and services to safe places
